What the test measures

Pattern matrices

Inductive reasoning — spotting the rule that governs a grid of figures.

Number series

Quantitative reasoning — inferring the rule behind a run of numbers.

Spatial rotation

Spatial visualisation — turning a shape in your mind without flipping it.

Odd one out

Classification — finding the one figure that breaks the rule the others share.

Figure analogies

Analogical reasoning — carrying a transformation from one pair over to another.

How scoring works

Harder items count for more than easy ones. Your weighted proportion correct is compared against the expected performance of an average adult on this item mix, then placed on the conventional deviation scale where 100 is the mean and 15 points is one standard deviation.

Roughly two thirds of people score between 85 and 115, and about 2% score above 130. Your results page shows exactly where you land on that curve, plus how you compare with everyone who has taken the test here Not sure how to read your number? See what counts as a good IQ score.

Scores are capped between 55 and 145. A short online test cannot responsibly resolve the extremes — read the methodology page for the honest limits.

Common questions

Is it really free?
Yes. There is no paywall, no email gate and no sign-up. The test is paid for by the advertising you see on these pages.
Do you store my answers?
Only an anonymous record of your score, the item types you got right and how long you took. No name, no email, no account.
Can I retake it?
You can, but expect a small practice boost the second time. The first honest attempt is the most informative one.
Is this a clinical IQ test?
No. Professional assessments are administered one-to-one and cover far more ground. This is a well-built estimate for general interest.
